New Adventures – The Beginning

It goes without saying that beginning can be the hardest step. We stand at the start peering into the unknown. We can only guess what we may face on the path ahead. Even if the path is one you’ve traveled before, the path can shift and change.

This is how college is for me. It was 10 years ago when I last traversed the grounds of a campus as a student. There are so many things that have changed and quite a lot that has not. My current campus, unlike the other, is far more diverse culturally and has a broader age spectrum. I have been mistaken for someone who is fresh out of high-school. As someone nearing 33, I will take it. Age has never bothered me. I feel more alive, aware, and happier in my 30s. I feel 20 – if you can believe that – which reminds me of the saying, 30 is the new 20.

My age wasn’t a concern for me as a student. I feel like I have my stuff together a bit more than I did a decade ago. In fact, I am certain of it.

So far, in my new adventure, it’s not been as terrifying as my mind would have me believe. There have been a few potholes along the way. Nothing my adult self cannot handle. Now, I await financial aid to sort out the remainder of my paperwork while I focus on attending classes and finishing assignments. In a short amount of time, things will seem business as usual.

Just remember, with any new adventure, just breathe and have a plan and even a backup plan. Sometimes life doesn’t go exactly the way we hope.

What new adventures are you facing this week?
