Over Share Much -Are You Overwhelming Your Followers?

Multiple social media accounts can allow you to reach a broader audience. It can also become overwhelming. Without a plan, in place, you may find yourself overlooking an account or two. Developing an effective marketing plan and linking several accounts together can allow you to streamline the process. However, linking all of your accounts can quickly lead to over posting.

There is a little trick to social media marketing and half the battle of social media is to know when to make posts and how many times of day to make them. Each social media site has an optimal time frame and a number of posts that effectively reach your followers.

Social Media Site Facts

Facebook – 1 to 2 times per day, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Tumblr – 2 to 3 times per day, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Twitter – 5 per day, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Instagram – 1 to 2 times per day, any time of the day

Pinterest – 10 per day, 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

This is just a general rule of thumb. Keep an eye on the level of interaction and compare it to the time of day you have posted. Keep a record using the provided analytics. Once you determine a pattern you can determine what times your audience is most active. Create a posting schedule, set a limit and a time frame. Space out your posts and don’t overwhelm your audience. Interact with your followers as often as you can. Be witty and professional. Address any customer service issues directly and swiftly. Take any issues to a private message as quickly as possible. Customer grievances shouldn’t be handled publicly if you can help it.

Don’t Over Share – Just Don’t Do It!

A posting schedule is key, as long as you stick to it. The biggest “no-no” that many businesses or public personalities run into is over-sharing personal details or airing out any personal drama on their business page. Your followers are not interested in your personal beef with negative commenters. There will always be someone who provides negative feedback. You win more loyalty by being professional. Mocking, shaming, or belittling others is highly unprofessional.

Always remember to K.I.S. or Keep it simple.

Not all businesses can afford a public relations or social media manager. Take the time to focus on a solid plan and keep emotions out of business. Losing time is losing money.
